elite of the United States Senate, the hissy fits of the pompous pimps of the pulpits) the answer is not to bury your head in the sand. Clicking your heels together won't deliver you from it either. For better or worse, this is home.
And we can make it better. We/you have to. If a Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights bill were to pass the Congress our President would sign the measure. It would invalidate these state by state battles and millions of dollars spent to fight each one of them would be saved. Have you written our representatives? Do you have relatives in those ultra-conservative districts that you
colleagues.
It is my hope with the new Clinton administration, educators, along with military personnel, will be allowed to openly express their views without fear of persecution.
Perhaps through the Gay People's Chronicle, educators or concerned gay citizens could come together and discuss ways the public can be educated about the professionalism gay teachers exhibit.
It would also be nice to have a professional gay section in your newspaper where educators could meet other educators.

And, perhaps, most important, try to get to Washington DC for the April 25th rally. It will be our opportunity to show the world our numbers and our diversity. Go! By bus, plane, train or thumb, it will be the singular greatest event you will ever experience. We need this strength, this shared experience, now more than ever.
If there is simply no way your body can be there, make certain your spirit and support is. Make out a check for $5, $10 or whatever amount you can and send it to the National March on Washington office, P.O. Box 34607, Washington, D.C. 20043. This national effort is not government subsidized, we/you must pick up the tab. It is our responsibility. And we must each take up the cause.

March needs medics
To the Editors:
Things are certainly gearing up for the March now, and we are finding critical areas where we need assistance. One of these is the necessity for medically-trained volunteers to staff first aid tents and provide roving medical support on the day of the March and at the direct actions the day after the March. And I write to ask for your aid in finding these volunteers.
The March needs every kind of medically-trained personnel, including doctors, nurses, LPNs, RTS, EMTs, MTs, CNAs, or nursing students. We will need over 4,000 people before the weekend is through, and we ask for only two hours of their time. With over 1 million people expected to attend, we will be blocking the fastest routes to local emergency rooms, and therefore need to be prepared to treat any medical emergency which may arise on the
scene.
Volunteers may contact me at the March office on Tuesday or Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 11:00 at 800-832-2889. See you in April!

Educators' forum
To the Editors:
As a physical education teacher of nine years, I have been in hiding. I'm tired of hiding the hurt I feel when I have a broken heart, not being able to grieve openly and express my opinions about gay issues to my
To the Editors:
It has become abundantly clear to me that like most Americans, I am part of the problem and not the solution. I can no longer sit by with my mouth shut and presume that since the prejudice and hatred so prevelant in our society now, has not directly affected my life, then mature responsible "Powers that be" are taking care of it. This nation's fear of change and progress is astounding. What is so wrong in our own lives that we become so ovsessive about others? Why is America so sexually obsessed? When will Americans realize that by accepting others for who they are does not mean you have to lose yourself or your own way of life.?
As evidenced by the '93 elections "We The People" have the power.
Please find the power within yourself to make your life the best it can be. Channel that energy you so vehemently direct toward destroying other lives, into changing yours toward a positive future. When we create separation, we create room for hate, prejudice and fear.
Stop thinking in labels, epitaths and derogatory terms, There is just one category, human, good, bad or indifferent we are all, human. Whatever Republican, black, heterosexual or atheist, we all have a common denominator, human.
Once you accept this and let go of the fear that because we are all "Human" we all must think or live as Christians, gays, women or Democrats, you can rise above all the petty, uneducated decisions that promote the differences destroying our country as we speak!
Please stop giving away the power we have as a country by seperating and fighting within. We must accept change and progress to grow together. We really are one world. We always have been.
We all search for love, understanding and happiness. Find your happiness within, share it with the world and understand that yur are the power, teach your children love and acceptance.
Stop the madness! Stop the hatred! Thank you for listening.
O. G. Smith
